On Friday 11th July, St George’s Catholic Voluntary Academy celebrated the 50th anniversary of the school opening. Children, parents, staff and friends of St George’s were invited to help commemorate the occasion.
The day began with a beautiful Mass held in a marquee on the school grounds. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Martin Hardy and concelebrated by Canon Alan Burbidge, Fr. Jude Eze and Fr. Peter Peterken. A music group made up of both staff and pupils led everyone in worship and children who made their First Holy Communion this year were chosen for readings and prayers. During the Homily, members of the school community, both past and present, shared their stories of times at St George’s over the decades.
After the Mass the children enjoyed a picnic together in the sun followed by an afternoon of excitement. Pupils (and staff!) enjoyed a funfilled afternoon playing on the inflatable obstacle courses, visiting the ice cream van, making loom bands, to name just a few!
It was a wonderful day in the life of St George’s Catholic Academy and we all look forward to the next 50 years!
We also arranged for an aerial photo to be taken of the school, with the children and staff arranged into a 50.
