Children are taught to divide using the sharing method. They will progress from sharing between 2 groups, to sharing between any number.
In year 2, we then progress further to look at division as grouping, not just sharing. We also then look at how we can use our times table facts to help us solve problems. Please see an explanation video below:
Children are continuing to use their times table facts to solve division problems. They become more familiar with remainders. They then use this to progress into using the bus stop method

Children will continue to divide using the short division method, and then move into longer division and dividing with decimals and fractions.
